The Ultimate Korean Street Food Rabokki (Korean Ramen and Tteokbokki) Recipe
Korean Street Food Rabokki Recipe

Ramen noodles and dukboki (or tteokbokki) are combined to make rabokki, which is a delicious dish. A spicy rice cake dish known as dukboki is closely associated in Korean cuisine with the Joseon dynasty's (1392–1897) royal court. Both dukboki and rabokki are common dishes eaten as Korean street food today.

Ingredients required

  • Oil, for stir-frying
  • 1/2 sliced into strips carrot
  • 1/2 thinly sliced sweet onion
  • 1/2-pound Korean cylindrical rice cakes
  • 1 large, flat, and slice into squares or rectangles Korean fish cake, also known as odeng or oh mook
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons kochujang, or red pepper paste
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 package Korean instant ramen noodles
  • 2 scallions, sliced into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 to 3 large hard-boiled eggs

Time required

Preparation: 10 minutes

Cook: 30 minutes

Total: 40 minutes

How to make Rabokki at home

  • In a large wok or saucepan, combine the gochujang, gochugaru, sugar, garlic, dashi powder, and soy sauce. Bring to a boil (in about 2-4 minutes) by adding water and stirring until everything is fully mixed.
  • Return the mixture to a boil after adding the tteok rice cakes, then simmer it for about 5 minutes while stirring constantly, or until the rice cakes have begun to soften.
  • Now add the fish cakes, cabbage, green onion, spring onion, and hard-boiled eggs.
  • Finally, put in the instant ramen noodles. Cook the dish for a further 5 to 10 minutes, or until the sauce begins to thicken and the ramen noodles are thoroughly cooked.
  • Add the sesame oil right before serving. More spring onion, green onion, and sesame seeds can be added as a garnish after being shifted to serving plates.

What should to be served with this?

Rabokki is sufficiently fulfilling on its own, but if you want to add additional side dishes to balance it out, we suggest pairing it with a variety of light Korean banchan dishes like pickled daikon, bean sprout salad (sujku namul), or seasoned spinach (sigeumchi namul).

Final word

This 30-minute Rabokki, the ultimate fusion of Korean street food, will ignite your taste buds. Ramen noodles and chewy tteok rice cakes are all packed together in a hot gochujang sauce.

You should purchase high-quality ramen noodles for this Rabokki recipe. Instead of buying the incredibly cheap packages of ramen that are available at many supermarkets, look for brands like Shin Ramen in an international market. Your Rabokki will be a lot better after this straightforward upgrade.
